The Hampshire County Youth Bands (HCYB) are part of the Hampshire County Council’s Music Service (HMS) ensembles provision.

The HCYB Association is a charity set up to support the activities of the HCYB Ensembles, and from time to time volunteers assist in the support of band events and activities under the aegis of the HCYB Association.

 HMS undertakes risk assessments for all ensemble activities and the HCYB Association, and its volunteers, support the ensemble director by ensuring we act in accordance with HMS risk assessments and all relevant HMS policies as outlined to us.  The HCYB Association consequently does not maintain its own policies save for the overarching commitment to adhere to HMS policies under the guidance of the ensemble director.

The ensemble director ensures all volunteers who are named in an HMS risk assessment are in receipt of the risk assessment and briefed accordingly prior to the event.

All HCYB Association volunteers who act in supervisory or support roles with the students, for example assisting backstage at concerts and on residential trips, are Enhanced DBS checked by HMS in line with HMS policy. 

The HCYB Association takes the view that all volunteers should, at a minimum, be aware of the contents of this page and to act in accordance with what is outlined here.
