The HCYB Association is a registered charity (No 297707) whose purpose is to support the activities of the three Hampshire County Youth Bands (County Band, Training Band, Junior Band); as well as the Endangered Species Programme, a project aimed primarily at children of Junior School age, who are not able to access school-based Hampshire Music Service tuition. This support enables the extended musical education of approximately 150 members of the bands.

Our role is to support the bands in a variety of ways, including:

• financial support
• Practical support in the run up to and at events 
• sourcing and supply of uniform
• providing refreshments and other support at rehearsals, including running a tuck shop

How we govern ourselves

As a registered charity, we comply with Charity Commission (CC) Laws and our governing document; which we call a constitution. You can read about the HYCBA charity on the CC website.

We have a management committee that consists of trustee and co-opted non-trustee members. The committee meets every other month on a Saturday morning at Perins School while the children and young people rehearse.

For 2023 we are planning to hold our Annual General Meeting in October; during one of the Saturday morning rehearsals. We appoint/re-appoint trustees at that meeting. All parents, as members of the charity, are invited to attend the AGM and serve on the management committee. Please let us know if this is something that interests you; we are always looking for new members.

Financial Support to the charity

The Association’s financial support to the three bands is so important. We fund the tutoring costs for the Endangered Species programme. We purchase music, contribute to venue, tour and event costs. Although we fundraise via a variety of means, including raffles, sale of refreshments and merchandise, we greatly benefit from families supporting the charity via an Annual Voluntary Contribution of £50 per family (not per child).
